Techni-Color Easter Treats

Easter is one of my favorite holidays. It's a time of year filled with promise and hope. Nature is awakening. We leave behind the cold and grey days of winter and step into light filled fully colored days. Growing up my family had a lot of Easter traditions including going to church, having big family picnics and brunches, going to greenhouses to see all the beautiful flowers, coloring Easter eggs and decorating little trees with delicate spring time ornaments, reading Beatrix Potter and watching The Ten Commandments. So while Easter may still be a few weeks away, I can't help but get excited when I see signs of its approach whether it's changes in the weather, spring time flowers or colorful Peeps.  Okay, so the Peeps and other Easter items are commercial and have nothing to do with the true meaning of Easter, but who can resist their crazy techni-color hues. If they don't signal spring, I don't know what does. Wandering around Dylan's Candy Bar and FAO Schwartz on this rainy Sunday was the perfect way to say goodbye to March and get ready to welcome April! And now I have some great Easter basket ideas!

Macy's 40th Annual Flower Show: The Secret Garden

Macy's 40th Annual Show Show, with this year's theme as The Secret Garden, opened to the public on March 23rd. Even though it's up until April 6, I went on its opening day because it seemed like the perfect way to celebrate the first weekend of Spring. Despite the lingering chill in the air, I really felt like spring was a little nearer after wandering around all the floral displays. Plus I really needed a cheerful dose of bright colors and fresh scents that flowers never fail to provide, especially when in such an abundance.  The in-progress chalk drawing of a fanciful garden outside the store was an extra bonus and I definitely went home with an extra spring in my step afterwards.

How do you like to welcome spring?

Color that Permeates

This post is from a couple of weeks ago on one of my gallery hopping excursions in Chelsea.  As always, I was most drawn to the works where color was so prominent (and such a part of the work) that it seemed to permeate the space around it.

Spring is coming....tomorrow!

This photo is from last week on what I remember as being a pretty cold and windy day. Dreaming of spring, I opted for layers so I could wear a floral sleeveless dress and pretend it was a lot warmer out than it actually was.  Ducked into a little convenience store on the work to admire their floral display. Warmer weather is just around the corner...I can feel it!

So much art to see

A couple weeks ago I saw so much great art over the course of 3 days that it only made me want to see more. Between the Independent Art Fair and the Armory Show I also checked out several shows in Chelsea that had been on my list of 'must see' for awhile.  What a great weekend! Looking forward to more art filled weekends!

The Wearing of the Green: Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope you wore green! I made sure to don myself in green from head to toe and wear my shamrock earrings and Celtic harp necklace. (I had the tune "The Wearing of the Green" running through my head all day).  I celebrated this special day by heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with some colleagues to check out the Ink Art exhibition and then trying to cut across the parade route to get back into the office :) But in case you think I split from tradition, don't worry...I popped into the Irish Arts Center that weekend so I definitely had a chance to tap into my roots. Anyways, it doesn't hurt to break from tradition every now and then and enjoy a bit of cultural exchange.
