That One Nice Weekend in Februrary

Looking at the photos I took last weekend I'm feeling really wistful. Winter gave us all a little preview of spring and for two days I almost believed spring had arrived. Of course, Monday rolled around and we were back to wintery weather. Unfortunately, this weekend will be nothing like last. I'm glad I got a chance to explore Ivan Navarro's installation in Madison Square Park while the weather was nice. I think this weekend I'll be spending more time indoors, checking out some exhibitions I haven't yet had a chance to see.

A Reprieve from Winter and a Two Exhibition Kind of Day

I don't know about you but I am really ready for winter to be over. Here in NYC we were treated to a nice reprieve from winter today and expecting more of the same tomorrow. I couldn't be happier with the warmer weather and sunshine today and took full advantage of it. I wish it wasn't so short lived though...apparently more wintery weather coming this week. Ah well, enjoy it while you can.

While wandering around today basking in the spring-like weather (if you ignore the mounds of dirty snow everywhere) I stopped in to see two exhibitions: Ladies and Gentlemen...The Beatles at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk at the American Folk Art Museum. I highly recommend checking out both even if you think neither is of interest. Both were a feast for the eyes and really informative.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

These Boots Were Made For...Trudging and Wading?

Almost everyday walking to work in New York City is more of an adventure than anything else. But yesterday might have might have surpassed all those other days as far as adventures go.  Wow, was it messy out! Construction, scaffolding, and restaurants that take up too much of the sidewalk with all their signage DO NOT mix well with icy conditions and giant people swallowing 'puddles' of slush. Every intersection was a guessing game as everyone seemed to be figuring out where to step...those 'puddles' looked deceptively puddle-like but I soon found out they were more like wading pools. Wading across the street and hurtling over piled up snow isn't all that bad until you factor in the speeding cars who can't wait to spray pedestrians, messengers and delivery people on bikes swerving in and out on the sidewalks, and over zealous shovelers, snowblower operators and de-icers.

But you know what? It was kind of fun too. It felt like all of us headed into work, trying to keep up our usual routine, were "in it" together. I loved how at each corner strangers came together to figure out the best route for making it across the street, testing patches of ice and 'puddles' to find the ones that were the least likely to cause injury or a complete soaking. I'm not saying I'd like everyday to be as adventurous but every once in awhile messy days like yesterday keep things interesting.

And if nothing else, I had a chance to pull out my dependable Sorrel boots for the occasion. My feet and legs stayed toasty and dry all day long.

Something else I discovered yesterday? The show really must go on! When I left my apartment early yesterday morning a film crew was already up and running, complete with their catering tent and truck. And when I came home they were still there. Guess the weather doesn't stop a production team.

Here a Bunny, There a Bunny

I know I've been neglecting this blog (sorry!) but there have been so many other things going on that writing a styling post has been the last thing on my mind. Rest assured though, I have been keeping the spirit of 'Jackie's Stylings' going....I mean if you are going to get dressed each day why not make styling choices that express who you are. (However, I admit that some days this winter I cared more about keeping warm than looking stylish....hopefully I still managed even with all the additional layers).

Anyways, the last two days have been pretty mild for this time of year which makes me very happy. It has been great being able to wear lighter layers, not to mention actually enjoying being outside rather than trying to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible just to get inside.

Here's a look at what I wore this weekend. I guess I was feeling inspired by my bunny Crusader and the spring-like weather. I was also around 4 year olds at work this weekend so I felt my outfits were appropriate for that occasion as well.
